Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: May 4, 2026

HangTime is a platform for organizing pickup basketball games and building small basketball communities. This Acceptable Use Policy (the “AUP”) describes what you can and cannot do on the Service. It is part of our Terms of Service and applies to everyone who uses HangTime.

The short version: act like an adult, do not post things that get people hurt, and do not abuse the platform. The long version is below.

1. Prohibited Content

You may not post, upload, share, or otherwise make available through the Service any content that:

  • is unlawful, or that promotes, facilitates, or instructs others in unlawful activity;
  • constitutes hate speech, harassment, or threats — targeting anyone based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic, or directed at a specific person;
  • is sexually explicit or pornographic;
  • is sexually suggestive and involves a minor — any minor, full stop. There is no “edgy joke” exception, no “artistic” exception, no “they’re my kid” exception. We do not permit sexually suggestive content involving minors on this platform under any circumstances, and we report illegal child sexual abuse material to NCMEC and law enforcement;
  • glorifies or incites violence, terrorism, self-harm, or suicide;
  • defames or libels any person or organization, or otherwise contains knowingly false statements that damage reputation;
  • is spam, a scam, a phishing attempt, a chain letter, a multi-level marketing pitch, or otherwise designed to mislead or extract money or credentials;
  • infringes any third party’s intellectual property rights — copyright, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity, or right of privacy;
  • doxxes another person or shares their private information (home address, workplace, ID, financial details) without their explicit consent;
  • contains identifiable images of minors without the verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian.

2. Prohibited Conduct

Beyond what you post, the way you use the Service matters. You may not:

  • impersonate another person, real or fictional, or misrepresent your affiliation with a person, group, gym, league, or organization;
  • share, sell, lend, or transfer your account to anyone else, or use an account that belongs to anyone else;
  • scrape, crawl, or otherwise programmatically access the Service except through interfaces we explicitly publish, and never in a way that violates rate limits or evades technical controls;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly prohibits us from limiting that activity;
  • circumvent rate limits, security controls, content moderation, or any other technical restriction we put in place;
  • interfere with the operation of the Service — denial-of-service attacks, brute-force attempts, exploiting bugs you have discovered rather than reporting them, deliberately overloading our infrastructure;
  • conduct unauthorized commercial activity through the Service — running a competing service on top of HangTime, selling tickets to runs you do not have facility rights to operate, or using HangTime to recruit for an unrelated paid product or service;
  • create multiple accounts to evade a suspension, ban, block, or any other moderation decision; one human, one account.

3. HangTime-Specific Rules

Pickup basketball has its own particular failure modes. The following are specifically prohibited on HangTime, and they are not negotiable:

  • Misrepresenting skill level or affiliationsto gain access to private runs — fudging your handle, your background, or your invitation status to get into a closed group is a violation. If a run is private, respect that.
  • Using location data, group rosters, or event RSVPs to stalk, surveil, or harass another player— on the platform or off it. The information we make available to group members is for coordinating runs, not for tracking people.
  • Posting photos or videos of identifiable players without their consent, especially at runs that include minors or family-friendly settings. Get a thumbs-up before you post the highlight reel. If anyone in a clip asks for it to come down, take it down.
  • Organizing runs that violate facility rules, court permits, or local ordinances— HangTime is not a tool for unauthorized use of someone else’s gym, park, or rec center. If the venue says no, the answer is no.
  • Physical violence, intentional injury, or fighting at runs organized through HangTime — this is grounds for immediate, permanent termination of the accounts of everyone involved, regardless of who started it.
  • Discrimination in run accessbased on protected characteristics — hosting a closed run for your friends is fine; running a public-facing run that turns away people based on race, religion, gender, or similar characteristics is not.

4. Enforcement

We may, at our sole discretion and with or without prior notice:

  • remove or restrict access to content that violates this AUP;
  • warn, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this AUP, our Terms of Service, or applicable law;
  • decline to deliver, downgrade, or filter messages or notifications that appear to be abusive or unwanted;
  • report illegal content (especially child sexual abuse material) and credible threats to law enforcement, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), or other appropriate authorities;
  • retain, anonymize, or delete content as described in our Privacy Policy;
  • take any other action we believe in good faith is necessary to protect the Service, our users, or the public.

We do our best to be fair, but moderation is not a court of law. We do not promise prior notice, a hearing, or an explanation. If your account is suspended or terminated and you believe it was a mistake, you can appeal by emailing abuse@gohangtime.com with your account email and the reason you believe the decision should be reversed.

5. Reporting Abuse

If you encounter content or conduct on HangTime that violates this AUP, please report it. The fastest paths:

  • Use the in-app Report action on the offending content (where available).
  • Email abuse@gohangtime.com with a link or screenshot, the account or content involved, and a brief description of the issue.

For emergencies involving imminent harm to a person, contact local emergency services first. We are not a substitute for the police, a crisis line, or medical care.

For copyright complaints under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) or equivalent foreign laws, send the required notice to legal@gohangtime.com. We will respond consistent with our obligations under applicable law.
